A "building permit" is a certificate that may have to be obtained from the appropriate municipality by the property owner or contractor before a structure can be erected. Generally speaking it must be posted in a conspicuous place until the job is completed and passed as satisfactory by a municipal building inspector.
Building permits are not always required for structures under 110 sq. ft. but if you require one we will be happy to help you submit the appropriate information. It is your responsibility to check with your local by-law office for the regulations and specifications in your area. To help with this, we have compiled a list of municipal offices by state.
You can obtain a permit application from your municipal by-law office or building/planning department. Speak to a staff member if you have questions about the list of requirements you must fulfill in order to receive a building permit. You will likely need to submit a fee, drawings (elevation and material details) and a property site plan with your application. Requirements often vary depending on location and local building code.
